This mama raccoon and opossum are eating together peacefully before her 3 raccoon kits come up sniffing around the possum. Mama raccoon is cool as a cucumber and knows that the possum is enjoying some nuts left in the pecan shells that they are sharing.

This is next to a waterbowl, there are pecans shells thrown out with few nuts in them and a handful of whole pecans from the pecan tree in our yard. We have a pear, fig, loquat, and persimmon tree as well as blackberries and blueberries.

Everyone gets along. Possums (formally known as Opossums) are generally no drama. Raccoons are mostly curious rascals. Charleston SC July 2025
