Spotted Sandpiper Courtship mating ritual?

These two spotted sandpipers are on our dock in Charleston SC oct 30 2024. They are either two nonbreeding adults (hence – no spots) or two juveniles. It’s hard to tell because of the back light.

The wings up and open and tail feathers outstretched makes me think they are flirting and not having a territorial dispute, but I’m not sure. Chime in if you know!

Female spotted sandpipers are larger, more aggressive, establish and defend their territory, and also initiate courtship rituals.

Females can have multiple eggs and multiple clutches per season.

The male is responsible for incubating and more of the parental cares. Definitely some role reversal but she’s got to get ready to have more babes maybe?
